At Nova, we provide individual counseling sessions to give you consistent and healthy opportunities for personal growth, exploration, and a deep and honest investigation of your addictive behaviors and thoughts.
• Group counseling – Group counseling sessions during IOP provide excellent opportunities for you to practice communicating clearly and respectfully with your peers. Group sessions also offer different perspectives on addiction, sobriety, and the challenges that come with it. As you discuss the difficulties of sober life and the strategies for maintaining your sobriety, you will also gradually build self-esteem and self-worth.
• Educational lectures – The more you know about the disease of addiction, the less likely you are to relapse and fall back into regular drug abuse. An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is outpatient addiction recovery treatment that allows a person to receive rehabilitation for substance abuse problems while still living at home, working, and/or attending school. This type of treatment is particularly advantageous for individuals who don’t need necessarily need the amount of structure an inpatient rehab center provides or who have recently completed residential treatment and need continued support.

2. What can I expect from intensive outpatient treatment?
Our intensive outpatient treatment program focuses on relapse prevention, life skills development, and peer support. This level of treatment is especially helpful upon completion of inpatient rehab, as it provides support for people who may be at higher risk of relapse and helps them reintegrate back into their daily lives. Each IOP session consists of an Education Group and a Process Group.
• Education Group covers a variety of topics from social skills and problem-solving to family dynamics, stages of change, the biology of addiction, and more.
• Process Group gives clients the opportunity to discuss personal issues and experiences in early recovery.

Clients who are enrolled in IOP meet at a safe and secure office location. Nova currently offers intensive outpatient programs in Houston and Austin, Texas.

4. How long are intensive outpatient programs?
Nova’s Intensive Outpatient Program is an eight-week program that meets three times per week for a total of 24 sessions. Clients meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and each session is three hours long (90 minutes of Education Group and 90 minutes of Process Group). Nova offers both day and evening IOP programs to make treatment even more accessible for those who work, attend school, or have family obligations during the day or evening hours. Although switching between the day and night program is discouraged, our staff is willing to work with clients to ensure successful completion of the program.

5. How much does intensive outpatient treatment cost?
The cost of Nova’s Intensive Outpatient Program will vary based on the client’s insurance coverage. If you’d like to know how much IOP enrollment will cost for you or a loved one, please contact our admissions staff for more details.

6. Can I use my insurance to pay for IOP?
Yes. Depending on the details of your policy, your insurance benefits may cover all or some of the cost of intensive outpatient treatment at Nova. The best way to verify your insurance benefits is to call and speak with one of our admissions specialists. After we collect some information from you and contact your insurance company on your behalf, we will be able to determine the extent of your coverage and let you know how much your insurance will cover and how much will be left to fund with alternative options (if there is an additional balance leftover). To verify your insurance benefits, we will need the following information from you:
• The company name of your insurance provider
• Your member ID number
• Your date of birth
• Your insurance provider’s telephone number (found on the back of your insurance card)
The insurance verification process only takes a few minutes and is completely confidential. No one else on your insurance policy will be alerted during this process and we will not give your private information to anyone else unless you give us permission.

The efficacy of any addiction treatment program will vary based on a few different factors. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, these factors include the amount of effort a client puts into the program, the quality of interaction between the client and the staff, and the appropriateness of treatment. At Nova Recovery Center, our staff is made up of experienced addiction treatment specialists who have a wide range of professional and personal experiences with addiction and recovery. Although we can’t control the level of effort and participation a client puts into the program, we can ensure that our intensive outpatient program will provide the highest quality of treatment and client-staff interaction available. Our admissions team will also complete a phone screening prior to enrollment to ensure that our IOP provides the appropriate level of treatment required to meet each client’s needs. The admissions process for intensive outpatient treatment is much like that of residential inpatient treatment. First, an admissions specialist will complete a quick phone screening with you. The purpose of this is to ensure that our intensive outpatient treatment is appropriate for your treatment needs or the needs of your loved one. A phone screening usually lasts about 10 minutes on average. Next, if you’d like to use insurance to pay for IOP, we will gather a few pieces of essential information and contact your insurance company to verify your benefits. This process is completely confidential, it only takes a few minutes, and it can be completed over the phone while you wait. Once you are ready to finalize your enrollment, we will schedule a date and time for you to begin. Our staff will take care of all the arrangements and make sure everything you need is ready for you upon your arrival at the proper IOP office.
